FIVE THINGS YOU DO EVERYDAY THAT
             ARE BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH

Did you know that even though we all want to live a healthy life, many of us end up having potentially unhealthy daily habits without realizing it? However, some of us try to exercise, make good meal choices and observe some basic health rules, which is good. But is that enough?

Check out this list of everyday things you might be doing that are bad for your health:

Sitting All Day

Countless studies have proven that inactivity or sitting for extended periods is linked to poor physical and mental health. It can increase your risk of cardiovascular disease, blood clots, cancer, diabetes, decreased mental health, and productivity. So, if your job requires you to sit for many hours, try standing, walking around, or climbing several stairs whenever possible. Standing burns about 20 calories per hour.

Holding in Sneezes

We all know how it feels when we try to hold a sneeze in. You feel like your head is about to explode. Did you know that sneezes move 100 miles per hour? That’s enough to cause some damage once they are stopped in their tracks.

Holding sneezes are reported to have caused nasal cartilage fractures, nose bleeds as well as detached retinas. So, muffle the sneeze in your sleeve anytime you need to hold it.

Eating from Plastic Food Containers

What harms consumers are not the plastic itself but the chemical components that make the containers solid. When you wash or heat the plastic container often and it comes in contact with food, the toxic and dangerous chemicals from the plastic will contaminate the food. You may use plastic food containers, but for not more than 5 months and not in the microwave.

Stare at a Screen All Day

Did your mom ever warn you that staring at a screen for too long will make you go blind? She was right to an extent. You won’t go blind, but you may get serious eye issues like computer vision syndrome (CVS), which brings dry and red eyes, blurry vision, eye irritation, headaches, and neck or back pain.

To combat such eye issues reduce your screen brightness and any surrounding glare on your computer. Move your computer about 20 to 28 inches away from your eyes and slightly below eye level. Lastly, apply the 20-20-20 rule by looking away from your screen every 20 minutes and at anything less bright 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

Not Eating Mindfully

Studies from researchers, including Jennie Miremadi, an integrative clinical nutritionist in Los Angeles show that mindful eating keeps away digestive stress, food cravings, eating disorders, overeating-related obesity, depression, anxiety, and overweight. It helps you distinguish between emotional and physical hunger. It also controls chronic health conditions like type 2 diabetes.

To eat properly for your overall well-being, relax, slow down, chew, embrace a balanced diet and avoid distraction when eating.

If you’re looking to give your health a boost, implement these changes above. Changing any habit that is bad for your health is not only necessary but also possible. Do not take an unhealthy habit for granted just because it has been with you for too long.
