HAIR GROWTH MASK FOR KINKY HAIR

HAIR GROWTH MASK FOR KINKY HAIR

HAIR GROWTH MASK FOR KINKY HAIR

One aspect of my journey to health and healing has to do with the decision I made a few years back( about 2016) to no longer perm my hair.

To be honest, it really wasn't my decision. My friend, Yvette, seeing the poor state my hair was in and how much my hair was breaking, asked me to visit her. Upon reaching there, she took a pair of scissors and chopped off almost all of my hair. She then treated my hair and gave me an embargo never to perm my hair again. I wasn't sure  I could meet her demands, but when some friends say something, you don't even argue. You just obey. And that is how I started my natural hair journey.

To make matters worse, after the big hair chop, she moved out of town. So I was left to myself to figure out how to care for my natural, dry and kinky hair. She was no longer available always to braid my hair, and I could only talk to her on the telephone when I needed help which wasn't always possible as she is swamped herself with work and other commitments.  As difficult as it was, I knew I didn't want to disappoint her because this was for my good.

Fast forward to 2021, the journey hasn't been easy, but I've learned a lot along the way, such as what type C hair means and what hair porosity is all about. In the past, whenever Yvette used to use these terms, they sounded like Japanese to me. I had no clue what she was talking about, but where there is a will, there is a way.

So today, I did my first ever wash and go, as you can see in the picture. It's not perfect, but I am so proud of myself and how far I've come, and I know some people who will be even more proud of me.; My friends Yvette and Takang.

Today, I made this hair mask that doesn't only help to soften and moisturise my dry kinky hair and helps it grow well too.

Check my recipe below, and let me know what you think if you try.

Homemade hair mask for kinky hair. Helps soften, moisturise and grow hair.

What you need

One very ripe avocado

Jamaican black castor oil

Regular castor oil

Glycerine or honey, 2 spoons

Any conditioner of choice

Any essential oil of choice: I used peppermint and rosemary. Essential oils are totally optional.

Mix all in a blender. Part your hair in small easy to manage sections. Spray each section with water or aloe vera juice to wet hair before applying the mask. When all sections are done, cover your hair with a shower cap or plastic bag and wait for 30 mins to a couple of hours.

Rinse, oil and style as desired.

I typically do this monthly or every time I take down my protective hairstyle like braids or twists. And I usually leave my treatment overnight.

My hair is no longer challenging, dry and difficult to comb. So try it and let me know how it worked for you.

Please share your hair tips with me in the comments below. I would love to retain length.
