Burdock is found all over the world. It is a root plant that is also used for food. Its root, leaf and seed are medicinal. “If you suffer from an enlarged spleen; burdock root can help. The spleen is a vital ‘guardian’ organ that we rely on to keep the body free from infections, viruses and all kinds of dangerous pathogens. An enlarged spleen is a clear warning sign that the immune system is fighting hard to remove threats from the body but failing to do so because it can’t keep up with high demand,” says Geneva Marie, on her blog, Healthy Warrior Mom (healthywarriormom.com).
Burdock roots have been shown to possess many powerful antioxidants, including quercetin, luteolin and phenolic acids. Antioxidants help protect the cells from damage due to free radicals. They also help prevent several health abnormal conditions and induces a reduction in inflammation.
It is expertly suggested to take burden in moderation because there is little knowledge about how an overdose of burden would affect the body adversely. Burdock is safe to eat but should only be bought from reputable sources and never be harvested from the wild; it is
important because it resembles belladonna, which is very poisonous, and they often grow together. So, care should be taken when buying burdock. If you do not trust the seller, do not buy.
