Imagine
it’s a hot day, and you’re enjoying homemade fruit popsicles? Remember that
homemade popsicles are healthier than store-bought popsicles with their
typically high fructose corn syrup and non-natural flavours. I make all my popsicle
recipes with more nutrients, 100 calories or less and natural sweeteners.
Hang on and
let’s have fun as you follow my lead on how to create the best-frozen treats.
Moulds
Unlike when
I was a kid, popsicle-making technology has undergone significant advancement. Thanks
to companies likeZoku, smart gadgets are available today. Whether you still
have the old-school plastic contraption or a modern pop maker, you can make
great fruit popsicles too.
Fruit
Since lemon
or lime is super healthy. I like to puree my naturally sweetened fruit with any
of them so that the acidity can curb the overly icy texture. Consider fruit
juice like orange, lemon, grape, guava, or apple to make amazing slow-melting
pops. Do you like different flavours? Go for a mixture of puree and juice. For
more texture and an inviting look, add small chopped pieces of fruit like
strawberry, watermelon, pineapple, mango or kiwi.
Creamy Popsicles
For healthy
digestion, add yoghurt as it contains protein and probiotics, and brings the
natural creaminess that gives the pops a smooth texture. Besides, pureed
bananas with the juice also enable soft bite. Moreover, dashes of unsweetened
coconut milk give the popsicle a creamy texture and subtly sweet flavour. Another way to create a creamy popsicle is to blend whole
fruit with anything creamy.
Freeze Time
The time the
pops take to freeze depends on the ingredients. It takes at least 4 to 6 hours for
the parts to complete the liquid-to-solid process. Overnight freezing is great
as it doesn’t keep you waiting.
I’ve
created many delicious homemade frozen popsicles. You can do it too. It only
takes a little bit of creativity to use wholesome fruit, juice, milk and
yoghurt. If your popsicle mould features ten spots, you can add different flavour
combinations depending if you adjust the recipe size.
